Portlandia <3

With just a short drive from our campsite in Washington, we made our way into Portland today to do some exploring. Though it was a bit overcast, we very much enjoyed walking around this beautiful and very clean city! The main thing that we noticed more than anything else was that everyone here seems to be super hip; annoyingly hip as a matter of fact. We felt incredibly underdressed and unimpressive in our jeans and fleeces! Oh well.

A neat used book store with stories (no pun intended) of merchandise!
Trying to sneak a peek into the Chinese Gardens (entrance fee, shmentrance fee!)
Taylor had found a neat hostel for us to spend the night in called the White Eagle, so as the afternoon wore on we figured it would be best to find our place for the night and get settled. It turned out that Taylor did VERY well with his reservation, as the White Eagle proved to be a really fun little place! They call themselves a "Rock N Roll Museum", as they have live bands playing music in their downstairs bar and restaurant 7 nights a week. Upstairs, in their "hotel" portion of the building are a handful of both communal and private rooms for travelers to rent. We splurged on the private room and enjoyed a night of relaxing, music, and plumbing! This hosteling experience was definitely much more successful than our last attempt, and provided us with the R&R that we needed to hit the road again for the REDWOODS! Bring on the big trees!
